Books to Help in Healing from Childhood sex Abuse

You may check out books from the Joshua Lending Library.

Following is a list of books of recommended reading and helps that are available from our Lending Library. You also might find these books at your local library or your local bookstore. If you want to borrow from our library, we pay the postage to you and your only cost is the postage in returning the books to us. Postage is inexpensive at "media" postage rates.

We can be of more help if you tell us the relationship of your abuser to you, how long ago the abuse happened to you and what age you were when the abuse happened. It will help us make other book recommendations to you. Please feel free to let us know what other kind of help you would like us to recommend to you.

  • Courage To Heal   by Ellen Bass & Laura Davis
    A guide for Women Survivors of Sexual Abuse. This book is highly recommended by us and by many counselors who work in area of healing from sexual abuse. This book can be used as your central 'core' of reading in your healing journey.

  • People of the Lie  by M. Scott Peck, M.D.
    About the essence of human evil. Peck demonstrates the havoc these People of the Lie work in the lives of those around them. He presents, from vivid incidents encountered in his psychiatric practice, examples of evil in everyday life. Because the abuser is often a parent that the victim loves, this book is helpful in understanding the evilness and the havoc.

  • Man's Search for Meaning   by Viktor E. Frankl
    This book is among the most influential works of psychiatric literature since Freud. The book begins with a lengthy, austere, and deeply moving personal essay about Frankl's imprisonment in Auschwitz and other concentration camps for five years, and his struggle during this time to find reasons to live. The second part of the book, called "Logotherapy in a Nutshell," describes the psychotherapeutic method that Frankl pioneered as a result of his experiences in the concentration camps.
